Turn your plastic bags into beautiful creations!
We all know it’s best to stay away from plastic bags, and bring your own reusable bag to the store when shopping. However, somehow they can still weasel their way into your home. Anda Lewis from Etsy show us how to fuse plastic using an iron, paper, and the dreaded bags themselves. The end product is similar to a piece of fabric, and you can make anything your heart desires with your sewing machine!

Paul Watson, the “Sea Shepherd”, an advocate for the whales
Ex Greenpeace Cofounder and wildlife defender Paul Watson, otherwise known as the “Sea Shepherd”, has dedicated his life to environmental activism and animal rights. Often regarded as “extreme”, and “over the top” , Paul heads an organization called the Sea Shepard Conservation Society, protecting animals in several campaigns. His active campaigns include protecting seals, fighting against longline fishing and shark finning, protecting the taiji dolphins and the ecosystems on the Galapagos Islands, and protesting whale hunting, especially from hunters in Japan. According to Japanese law, whale hunting is allowed for “research” only. And the hunting continues, for “research” as the great barges have written in large letters on their vessels. Except it is not for research. They have used these laws as a loophole for whale hunting. In Japan, whale meat is seen as a delicacy, and officials in Tokyo maintain that the tradition is an important part of the nation’s cultural heritage. Whale meat is readily available to Japanese consumers at specialty restaurants and gourmet grocery stores nationwide, despite the laws. Many japanese are now beginning to pay attention to the current endangerment of many types of whale species and their governments ignorance. Tomoko Yanai, 45, who has two children, says “The meat is delicious. I used to eat it when I was in school. But whales are precious animals and now I feel they should be protected.”
Although water laws are in effect, enforcements are weak, and Paul is a spokesperson for change.

Biota water, it tastes great and has a biodegradable bottle
Yum. I may be biased, living in Telluride, so close to the home of Biotia, but I strongly recommend their bottled spring water. It tastes amazing, and the bottle is made from corn based plastic, which biodegrades into the earth in about 75 days….

Compact Flourescent Bulbs
At a cost of $10-$20 per bulb, some people may think you mad for choosing compact flourescents (CFLs) over conventional $0.50 incandescent lights. Tell them to do the math.September’s issue of Business 2.0 tells us that industry giant Adobe Software recently spent $11,000 upgrading all of the lights in its San Jose HQ to CFLs. Yes, 11k sounds like a lot, but with anticipated annual electricity savings in excess of $105,000, this stands as yet another example of how going green can save you green.
